Less class time is dedicated to puppy socialization as we ask for more focus from our adolescent puppies. Puppy play is not mandatory and pet parents have the option to opt out of puppy play at any time.
This class is for puppies 8 months old up to 11 months old. Must have their second set of vaccinations (DH2PP and rabies). If you register early, ensure your puppy is not over the age limit by the class start date.
Common Puppy Myths:
Okay, mostly false.
As they mature, some puppies outgrow certain issues however, this is not something to rely on! Puppies are creatures of habit and “puppy issues” that are allowed to persist through adolescence often become even worse behaviours as adults, because of course they’re bigger now. So that puppy who is allowed to mouth, can grow up into a mouthy adult dog. And the cute puppy that is allowed to jump up on people, learns it’s still ok to jump on guests as a larger, heavier adult dog. It’s important to work with your puppy from a young age to ensure puppy issues do not become adult habits.
Puppies start learning the moment they are born and training should start as soon as they come home. Puppies can start learning basic cues, house training, and tricks at 8 weeks old. Waiting to train your puppy can lead to many unwanted adult behaviours such as fear and anxiety from the lack of exposure and understanding of what we humans want from them.

Does your dog bark and lunge at people, dogs, cars, or a specific trigger while on leash but never shows this behaviour off leash? Then you likely have a leash reactive dog.
Leash reactivity is one of the most common dog behavior problems we see and is typically a frustration or fear response. Although your dog’s reactivity can draw a lot of potentially unwanted attention on walks, it’s nothing to be embarrassed about.
This class is designed to address the underlying cause of your dogs reactivity and slowly with repetition, change your dog’s association to their trigger. We do this in two ways: first by managing their arousal they are able to stay focused on the handler and second, we play the engage/disengage game where they are rewarded for noticing a trigger and not reacting.
Important: The first class is a mandatory information session for the handlers only, please do not bring your dog to the first week. If a handler misses the first class, the dog and handler may be removed from class without a refund.
Notice: A dog that has previously punctured another human or dog must: complete a private assessment before registering and wear a basket muzzle unless instructed otherwise.
This class is for dogs 8 months and older at the time of registration. Limited to 4 participants. Dogs must be vaccinated (DH2PP and rabies) to attend class.
To truly extinguish leash reactivity for good, we start the class by revisiting the engage/disengage game without any reacting, and challenge our dogs to use better coping skills around a trigger, use the learned impulse control to choose those coping skills, and voluntarily look at their handler.
In other words, we have taught your dog appropriate ways to interact with their environment that does not involve an explosive response!
Prerequisite: Leash Reactivity Level 1
Reminder: To guarantee your spot in class, payment must be received within 48 hours of booking or the reservation is removed from the system. Payment can be made in person, by phone with credit card only, or by e-transfer to hello@canineaddiction.ca (must include GST).
